How to optimize the performances of Alchemy RPG?
OPTION 1 (WINDOWS 11 only) : Make sure you’re using the right graphic settings for the Alchemy app / your browser
We need to tell Windows “this app uses high graphic performance” and for that we need to find the app first. If you installed Alchemy on its default location, it’s hidden by default, so you have to reveal your Hidden files (if not, I guess it’s not hidden, you can find it easily) :
- Open your File Explorer / Layout and view preferences / Show / Hide objects
Let’s show it to Windows :
- Go to Settings / System / Display / Graphics
- Select “Desktop-App”
- Click “Browse” menu, in the path location, the default one : “C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Programs\Alchemy”
- Click the Options button, select High Performance
Then hide the hidden objects again :
- Open your File Explorer / Layout and view preferences / Show / Hide objects (uncheck it)

SOURCE FILES
How to use the source files in OBS Studio?
Let’s see how to use OBS Studio to create RPG scenes for you to record or stream:
1. Download and install OBS Studio.
2. Launch OBS Studio, here is a quick explanation on how this software works :
- The Scene panel: in OBS Studio, like in other Virtual RPG platforms, you create “scenes”. In a scene you’ll put your illustration, your battlemap picture, the animated overlays.
- The Preview panel: here you will see your scene.
- The Sources panel: inside a scene you place what OBS Studio calls “Sources”: your picture, your video, your sound, your text, well any media composing your scene!
- Scene Transitions: when you click on one scene to another there is a transition effect between the two. The default one is nice (Fade).
- Audio Mixer: set and see the volume of your audio (microphone or sound in your scenes).
- Controls: the different settings of OBS Studio.
After launching OBS, let’s make sure the dimension of your scenes is right, in the Controls panel, go to Settings / Video / Base (canvas) Resolution and change it to the desired dimensions.
3. Create your Scene, click on the “+” button at the bottom left on the Scenes panel, name it.
4. Let’s import our illustration picture which will serve as background for our scene : click on the “+” button at the bottom left on the Sources panel, choose Image (or Media Source if it’s a video), name it “Background” and click OK, select your media by clicking the “Browse” button and click OK.
If your media doesn’t fit the size of your scene, simply right click on it in the Preview panel, go to Transform / Fit to screen.
5. Let’s import an animated asset: click on the “+” button at the bottom left on the Sources panel, choose Media Source, name it “My Asset” and click OK, select your animated asset(a .webm file) by clicking “Browse” and, very important, enable these settings : “Loop” if this is a loop animation. And “Apply Alpha in linear space” if the asset has transparent background (Creature or Overlay). Click OK.
Resize it to fit your screen as explained above.
Your scene is ready! In the Source panel, one important thing to keep in mind : the top layer will appear “in front of” the layers under it in the Preview panel. So make sure your Overlay source (with transparent background) is above your Background source in the Source panel.
You can create as many scenes you want and go through them by double clicking them in the Scenes panel. If not, change their order by maintaining the click on a source and dragging it where you want.
6. Want to record or stream your scenes?
To record a video of your scene, simply click Start Recording in the Controls panel (the Record settings are in Settings/Output).
To stream your scenes, simply click Start Streaming in the Controls panel (the Stream settings are in Settings/Stream).
How to modify the source files?
You want to change the dimensions, change the color, crop my assets? The easiest and free way is probably by using the video conversion tool Shutter Encoder.
Here’s how to change the color of one of my asset :
- Download & install Shutter Encoder.
- Open it and drag & drop in the list section the asset you want to edit (or click Browse)
- Before making some adjustments, we need to set the proper export settings, start with the video codec, type VP9 in the Choose function section
- Change the bitrate to something around 1000-2000kb/s
- If your asset has transparency (aka alpha channel), enable it in Advanced features
- If your asset doesn’t have audio, turn it off in Audio settings
- Now the fun part! Go to Image adjustments and tweak the settings to your liking.
- Once you’re satisfied, click on Start Function to start your export and click No, in the pop-up menu to not overwrite the original file.
- You should now have 2 files, the one with a “_1” suffix is your newly edited masterpiece 🥳.
TIPS : You can make a preset for your settings in Shutter Encoder to do your next editing faster, to save your preset, click on the star icon in the Choose function section
Then click on the small + icon in the My functions pop-up window and save your preset.
To access it, click on the star icon again and select your preset in the list. You’re a pro now!
How to turn the animations into stills?
For some reasons, you want to turn the animations into still image. Let’s do that!
- Download the free converter Shutter Encoder and launch it.
- Click Browse and select your files
- In Function, choose Image and select the picture format “.png”
- Press Start Function and voilà!
